RJD Jenkins Opticians in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran

RJD Jenkins Opticians is owned and run by husband and wife optometrists, Dax and Caroline Jenkins.

The practice was opened in August 2000, and we have been serving Pontnewydd, Cwmbran and the surrounding area ever since - growing our practice database to over 10,000 patients. The practice has been built on our reputation of providing professional and thorough eye care, quality eyewear, and excellent personal service.

After studying for his GCSE’s at West Monmouth Comprehensive School and A-Levels at Pontypool Tertiary College, Dax studied Ophthalmic Optics at The University of Aston in Birmingham where he qualified with an Honours Degree in 1994. He then worked his pre-registration year at an independent practice in Monmouth, with days at the Gloucester Royal Hospital eye department, until passing his College of Optometrists Post Qualifying Examinations in 1995. As well as being a General Optical Council registered optometrist, Dax is also accredited to provide Eye Health Examinations (extended examinations of ocular function and health) and Emergency Eye Examinations (in cases of ocular emergencies), having undertaken extended training, and regular re-accreditaton, in ocular pathology. Special professional interests include sports vision correction, contact lenses, domicilliary eye care, and low vision (being an accredited Low Vision Assessment provider for the Welsh Assembly).

Caroline attended Bassaleg Comprehensive School for her GCSE’s and A-Levels before studying at Cardiff University, gaining an Honours Degree in Optometry in 2001. She then did her pre-registration year with a group of independent practices in the Gwent Valleys and hospital placement at the Royal Gwent ophthalmology department. She passed her College of Optometrists Post Qualifying Examinations in 2002 and continued to work as an optometrist for the same group of opticians until 2005. She then moved to a senior role as Professional Practice Manager in Newport and Bristol for a national company, which included supervising trainee pre-registration optometrists, before joining RJD Jenkins Opticians in 2007. Caroline is also a General Optical Council registered optometrist and accredited to provide Eye Health Examinations and Emergency Eye Examinations.
